Alfred F. Jones was walking through the High School with his sort-of-friend Arthur and his younger half brother Matthew. Arthur and Alfred were talking quietly while Matthew trailed behind them.
"I don't know if being outside is safe, even if this school is secure. They say that this is a parasite that takes hold of you and lives off of you until you die and then...." Arthur fretted quietly, as to not scare any of the other school goers further.
"Artie, the military said they would take care of it, why would they lie? I mean... They are the heroes, right?" Alfred said a twinge of doubt in his voice.
"First of all, don't call me 'Artie'; second, even heroes lie; and third, here comes you're lovesick puppy." Arthur said without a backward glance, his British accent helping him give of the air of "not caring". Footsteps approached them and not before long, a voice.
"Hello comrades! A nice day, isn't it?" Ivan Braginsky strolled over to them with his usual creepily sunny attitude.
"Yes a perfect day for dying indeed. What brings you over here Ivan, shouldn't you be with you're groupies?" Arthur said dryly. He got elbowed in the ribs by Alfred. The Russian giggled softly at their antics. Alfred's  face grew a slight shade of pink. He opened his mouth to say something witty, or stupid (depending on if he thought before he spoke), when he was cut of by a scream. Matthew, who was still behind them, stopped. Alfred turned around to see his face paler than usual.
"That was Gilbert's voice." He whispered, his words barely audible. He ran off, the three others following him. They rounded the corner, and gazed right into a panic attack.
Gilbert Beilshmidt had been bitten. The bite stood out a flame red on the albino's pale skin. The senior lay on the floor screaming and sobbing. It was a horrible sight to see. Matthew and Gilbert's brother, Ludwig, stood completely still watching the bitten boy thrash and writhe on the tiles. Then though, he stopped. His joints crackled and popped as he staggered up. The silence was complete, and impenetrable. He looked up, a grey tinge to his skin, his eyes dull and glazed over as he made hissing and retching sounds. He dove for Matthew, biting him, drawing blood as he mangled the boy's arm.
"MATTIE!" Alfred screamed, heart broken. He watched as the moment of silence shattered, students trampling one another, screams of terror and pain echoing. Alfred, Ivan, and Ludwig were frozen in place as they watched Matthew's still lively body. His screams lost in the noise. They watched him get trampled until the hallway was empty, he lay there sobbing.
"Alfred..." His soft call shattered the spell, as the a fore mentioned boy ran up to his brother's side. He grasped the trembling hand that was held up to him.
"Mattie, Mattie I-I'm here, what do you need bro?"
"D.... don't let m-me turn.... Please, Al, p... please." Alfred stood up slowly watching the puddle of blood around his brother grow larger and darker, as the droplets mixed and churned together. He wiped away a pearly tear that ran down his face slowly.
"I-I can't Mattie, I have nothing to-"
BANG! Alfred froze as he saw the bullet go through his bother's face, saw as the periwinkle eyes glazed over, and watched as his brother fell for the last time. He looked over at Ludwig, who held a hand gun. They looked over to see a few of the infected lumbering over, the noise of the gun had alerted them of the sophomore's presence. Ludwig reached into his backpack and threw Ivan and Alfred two guns similar to his.
"Go, I'll catch up." He yelled pointing to where all of the other students fled. Alfred looked around, where did Arthur go? He shrugged it off knowing that he would be with the other students. The duo ran, trying to conceal their guns. They found their classmates in a very bad predicament. What use to be Gilbert stood gnashing his teeth together with hideous claking sounds. Someone fell creating noise in the otherwise silent room. It was Wang Yao, he got up slowly, but Gilbert had heard and staggered surprisingly fast towards him. Kiku Honda threw himself infrount of Yao, getting mauled by Gilbert in the process. Everyone watched as Kiku want down, Yao kneeling beside him. Everyone scattered. A hand was put on Alfred's shoulder, it was Ivan. Alfred couldn't help the small blush that spread across his face, but looked over to where he was pointing. Locked in the gymnasium was maybe twenty scared and helpless school kids, from the intermediate school, and Arthur's dead corpse stumbling towards them. One kid looked over to Alfred, meeting his gaze through the thick glass in the door's window. It was Arthur's little brother, Peter. He started towards the door but Ivan stopped him.
"Don't play the hero in dangerous situations comrade...." He said softly. Alfred blinked slowly.
Was the room supposed to spin? He thought as he blacked out.

Alfred woke up in the nurses office. The power had been cut, the teachers ran, the school was full of infected, and where was Ivan? He sat up slowly, ignoring the pounding in his head. He looked around, grabbing his gun and some magazeens that had been mysteriously left there. The school was silent, the screams and padding of feet that sounded before were nonexistent now. He slowly opened the door cringing as he heared it creak open. The sound echoed through out the hallway. He paused as he heard a hiss from an infected that was around the corner, or so it seemed. If he could just go the other way he would be able to find others that had hopefully survived. He took a soft carful step, keeping his arms out for balance. His fingers brushed against something soft. He looked and almost screamed. It was an infected girl who had, most likely, escaped from the gym some how. His hand slid through her hair as she passed, so slowly. He was waiting for her to turn around, hiss, scratch, anything really. The calmness was enough to drive him completely silent and on edge. Finally though, she padded down the hallway. He ventured on again, stopping once or twice for an infected to lumber on by when he got into a room drenched in blood.  In the middle of the room was Elizaveta, a girl from Hungary.  Alfred walked over to her, noticing how her legs were missing, there was blood and internal organs everywhere, she was clutching at her throat, and her boyfriend Roderich was lying on the floor his body very painfully mangled. Alfred started to walk out the door even more determined to find Ivan when Elizaveta grasped onto his ankle. he looked down and saw a small tear walk it's way down her face. He watched as it's clear blue fell into the ocean of red. It didn't make purple. She coughed once, a painful sound, and kept coughing until blood spattered the ground. To much of the life sustaining fluid escaped her and she gracefully fell to the floor. Dead. Alfred walked out of the room. He needed to find Ivan.

He stared down at the one he used to like. Dead. Bullet to the head, self inflicted, right after he got bitten. Smart move, Alfred thought, Even smarter if he waited for me to find him sooner. Kiku's dead corpse rounded the corner Alfred shot, it was direct hit. He could hear the others now, no longer wandering but staggering fast, they were headed for him. He looked at his gun, then to his dead lover. He smiled slowly and knelt down to the dead Russian.
"I'm going to see you again, ok?"
Another shot echoed through the dead school, with no one in it to care.

I was almost about to get upset with the lack of romance, but then the note you finished the story on was more than enough to cover for it. This story is just... amazing, friend. I don't think I have a single complaint for this, honestly. :D Great job! I give it a 9.5/10 (Cause there's always room for improvement ;))
